The National Archives at Kew has a complete database index to all W097 Discharges between 1760-1854. For the 1883-1899 and 1900-1913 periods listed below, the coverage of GANDER and GANDAR is probably complete. However for the periods before and after these dates my coverage is not complete.

These erratic notes are (mostly) my own, taken down at the time for the genealogical information as I saw it. The discharge files contain much more information.

On discharge on account of disability (10 Sep 1917): Height: 5' 8", eyes: brown, complexion: fresh. Looks like joined Labour Corps as discharged (Serial No. 322703?) 23 Feb 1919, Address: (61?) Casualty Form dated 1 Nov 1915 gives Charles as 'drowned ex 'Hythe' Collision on service' (Gallipoli).

Discharged 21 Mar 1920 to Home Address: 3 Radnor Str, Chelsea. Character (1920): 'Very Good. He is a reliable Warrant Officer and understands the management and care of horses'.

[The next entry followed immediately after the entry above and I believe it to be for the same man's pre-Great War service. However, the forenames differ, the suggested year of birth is 3 years out, there is no GRO Birth or Marriage Registration for a 'Francis Henry GANDER ' and the year of marriage below is also 'wrong' - so needs checking].

Wrote to War Office from 28 North Str, Lewes (Dec 1916) applying for a 'silver War Badge' as 'Blinded by Concussion - bursting shell - Retreat from Mons'. Awarded 15 shillings weekly pension. In 1921 lived at 28 Paddock Rd, Lewes, Sussex when awarded British War and Victory Medals and 1914 Star. Discharged 29 Mar 1916 - then listed as with 3rd Cheshires.
